Devices that allows editing, producing, storing and transmission of data and information between different infromation systems.


2. Why ICT are important?

Because they allow better communication and facilitate contact between peope, having an impact on development in different fields such as educational, political, economic, social and cultural.


3. What are the characteristics of ICT?

  • Massification of devices and reduction of their costs and increase of their capacities.
  • They tend to the hybridization of their functionalities.
  • Linked to fields like globalization, new economy, information society and knowledge management.
  • Technological development is constantly evolving.

4. Mention 3 benefits and 3 disadvantages  of ICT 

  • Benefits

    • e-conscience: understanding of the importance and risks of ICT in society, as well as their use.
    • Technological literacy: usage of ICT for different purposes.
    • Mediatic literacy: the move of traditional media to a digital format, understanding their purpose (political, social, legal and economic information).
  • Disadvantages
    • Increase in inequalities: only those who use actively ICTs can access what is shared in them, marking greater social inequality with those who does not have that access.
    • Isolation and fragmentation: if a person is not aware of the impact of ICTs, there may be isolation and disregard their daily life
    • Uncontrolled abundance and immobilization: saturation of information, which can end in giving little importance to the accumulation of information, stress and consumerism.
5. Describe some limitations of ICT
  • Technical problems: problems with Internet connection and incompatibilities between the devices.
  • Economic barriers: The cost is excessive for some people.
  • Cultural barriers: English as the dominant language, and not all the people speaks this language.
